We all know that in the dictionary, adolescence is given as between puberty and maturation. As such many doctors and biologists compared it tongue in cheek with a puppa form. As the caterpillar enters the cocoon to develop into a butterfly, I remember very well my own son entering a period of semi-hibernation during his teenage years even during the summer. Most parents will remember the same when 12 hours of sleep still leaves the poor little animal too void of strength to tie its shoes for instance?
I was outside with young ones yesterday and as we talked by the huge but empty driveway, one 14 year-old was sprawled down on the pavement, too tired to stand. Before I had time to ask him to behave a little, a very nice car filled with very nice beautiful people stopped by and inquired if they should call an ambulance for us. I calmed their fears by explaining it to be a “normal larval” state but I am still laughing. Fingers crossed that the shame will be enough to add backbone to our poor larva though?
Effective demonstration nonetheless, Tay.
